A man reportedly grew a second head after a brief swim in Lake Norman on Wednesday.
It was 97 degrees in Charlotte. With no boat and limited judgment, the man and two coworkers pulled off at a public access point next to a community where thyroid cancer is just something people have now. He was in the water for less than ten minutes before emerging with a second head forming just above his right shoulder.
Lake Norman is North Carolina’s largest man-made lake. Built by Duke Energy in the 1960s to cool a coal-fired power plant, it now functions as a blend of pontoons, Bluetooth speakers, empty White Claw cans, submerged patio furniture, and what appears to be water.
Locals often describe it as “technically swimmable” and “not the worst if you don’t open your mouth.”
Environmental groups have raised concerns about coal ash seepage, algae blooms, and rising toxin levels in the surrounding groundwater. Several neighborhoods—including parts of Mooresville and Belmont—were built directly on reprocessed waste. Duke Energy denies all wrongdoing and recently donated $1,000 to a glowing turtle.
The second head reportedly speaks in a low voice and mostly says things like “go deeper” and “it’s not finished yet.”
Lake Norman remains open.
