CHARLOTTE — A predawn rocket barrage from Charlotte struck downtown Raleigh on Friday, escalating hostilities between the two cities and leaving multiple structures heavily damaged. Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell condemned the attack and vowed swift retaliation.
Charlotte officials ordered a rapid troop mobilization following the strike, preparing for what authorities described as a wider territorial operation.
“Today marks a great victory for our people,” said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles in a statement praising the advance. “Charlotte has risen to meet its destiny, and together we will shape the region’s future.”
Reports of military movement across the Piedmont continued through the morning as residents braced for further developments. Diplomatic channels remained open but showed no signs of progress.
Weekend parking on Hillsborough Street remains limited.
