SPECTRUM CENTER — The Charlotte Hornets front office confirmed Monday that they are “extremely optimistic” about liquidating its remaining basketball operations in exchange for a $50 Chili’s gift card.
The transaction, which completely clears out the final remnants of Charlotte’s ascending 44-win core, comes just days after the team strategically unburdened itself of All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball and forward Miles Bridges.
“We want to be disciplined and strategic with our approach to asset gathering,” President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson said, proudly holding up the plastic reward card. “While losing Brandon Miller, Coby White, and our entire coaching staff hurts, a molten chocolate cake is a foundational piece you can build around. We feel we are blocks ahead of the rest of the league right now.”
While fans are understandably devastated by the sudden collapse of the roster, Peterson urged patience, noting that the long-term play is what matters.
“The short-sighted critics will claim we gave up too much baseline talent,” Peterson added. “But they are completely ignoring the future draft capital here. If we choose to defer this lunch, the card’s balance automatically converts into an unprotected 2033 first-round pick swap and a side of skillet queso. Seven years from now, when this casual-dining landscape is entirely reset, we are going to look like absolute geniuses.”
At press time, negotiations were reportedly underway with the city to repurpose Spectrum Center into a massive Spirit Halloween outlet.
